MYS goes solar

CONTEST YACHTS (including MYS) GOES SOLAR Renowned Dutch bluewater cruising specialist Contest Yachts MYS is part is celebrating the September completion of phase one of a significant solar photovoltaic (PV) power system installed to reduce operational costs and as further commitment to improving an already impressive carbon score.   Designed and constructed by Beter Duurzaam BV, which translates appropriately to Better Sustainability, the system spans a vast 1,650m² of hall roof space with 1,270 265w modules (PV panels) totalling 336kW to generate 300,000kWh annually. In plain speak, that’s the equivalent of powering 100 homes yearly or 90% of Contest Yacht’s current draw on the grid.   Maximising output, engineers integrated 10 SolarEdge inverters while for structural load management the modules are mounted on a low ballast system which lowers weight to an average of <14kg/m².   Contest Yachts CEO Arjen Conijn says of the installation, “We are delighted with this new clean energy contribution to the continual improvements we are making to the management and operation of our assets and construction methodologies. Reducing our call on the national power grid is not just good for us but for the economy and the environment. We’re naturally pleased also to be among the pinnacle of Holland’s leading yacht builders to make such commitments to better long term sustainability. Holland is renowned for renewable energy and we are proud to play our part.”
